| Mary L's Daisy Scarf |
 |
Another stunner from Mary. This one is a case of see ... drool ... want ... must-knit-now! Mary used the Daisy scarf pattern from Rowan Magazine 38 but made it slightly narrower (in this version the first section of the stitch pattern has four daisies and the second has three daisies), stuck with the recommended needle size and used some delicious Alpaca Silk Aran yarn in the Berry shade. swoon... :) |
| Carol F's Sock |
| Another knitter took the leap into socks before Christmas! This is Carol's first sock and the pair were completed as a gift for her Mum (who was thrilled). Next up has to be a set for herself - you see, no one knits just one pair of socks ... it's an addiction ... we all need help! Carol's were knit from Opal sock yarn.>

| Mary Mac's Armwarmers |
 |
Mary Mac was wearing these beauties when she came to visit us in Blackrock a while back (ok, so it was a good while back and I just came across this photo and remembered it should be up here - sorry Mary). We love how they can be tucked right up inside a coat or jumper to maximise insulation from nasty winter draughts. Mary made hers from Alpaca Silk DK yarn in Teal. |
| Edel's Aran Baby Blanket |
| This stunning baby blanket was knit in the midst of much study and plenty of pressing deadlines but Edel's multitasking abilities have shone through! The pattern is from the Simply Living Booklet by Debbie Bliss (sized down to a baby blanket) and was knit from Merino Aran in Taupe. Edel's handiwork is heading on a long journey to the States, where it is destined to become an heirloom...

| Gemma's Party Lace Scarf |
 |
Gemma made her version of Party Lace a bit wider and longer than the original pattern and added some sophisticated black beads to set off the Liqueur colour of Kid Silk Haze. She said she loved the yarn and she will be using another of the Kid Silk yarns for her next project - a lace stole. |
| A Much Better Picture of Jacqui's Homespun Throw |
| A much nicer day gave us the opportunity to photograph the blanket again before Christmas. This is a truer representation of the Chocolate Brown colour of the Homespun yarn. The throw is now adorning an armchair in Jacqui's sister-in-law's house!
| |
| Mary L's Malagaiter |
 |
Not content with just being our sock knitter teacher extraordinaire, Mary also provides us with a string of fabulous projects to ooh and ahh over on a regular basis! This one was a last minute Christmas gift for Mary's brother, knit from Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted in the very manly "Mineshaft" colourway. Mary used the pennant stitch version of the Malagaiter pattern, available here. |
| Jacqui's Homespun Throw |
| In just five nights Jacqui completed this rich, soft, organic textured throw using four hanks of Craftspun's Homespun thick and thin yarn. It was knit on 15mm needles and finished by simply threading a wide ribbon along all four edges.

| Lindy's One Skein Lion and Lamb Scarf |
 |
Lindy knit this simple yet stunning scarf from just one skein of Lorna's Laces Lion and Lamb in Lakeview. She cast on 28 stitches and worked the scarf on the bias in plain garter stitch. The end result showcases the yarn beautifully and she has received lots of compliments on it so far!

 |
| Mary O's Hot Pink Mistake Rib Scarf |
 |
This scarf will brighten up the darkest winter day and will look stunning with a simple black coat.
Yarn: Cashmerino Chunky in Hot Pink.
|
| Jacqui's Simple Ribbed Scarf in Homespun Multi |
Jacqui used two skeins of Craftspun's great new Multi yarn (in Colour 02) to whip up a simple 1 x 1 rib scarf on 10mm needles. Two hanks gave plenty of length to this scarf, with extra long tassles too!
The colours are not best represented in this picture - you can view them in much better light here.
| |
| Mary O's Rainbow Scarf |
 |
Mary combined the "Warm Fuzzies" pattern from Stitch n Bitch Nation with Rowan's Tapestry yarn in "Rainbow". The stitch pattern is really versatile and shows a fine cable on one side and a rib on the other. It works really well with the softly transitioning colours of this yarn.
|
| Lisa's Curly Scarf |
This one has been on display in the shop for the last while but had yet to appear in the gallery. The picture isn's as true to the colours as I would like it to be. A better representation of shade 84 is Sinead's divine Clapotis (scroll down the page to see it).
Yarn: Silk Garden Colour 84.
| |
| Mary O's Baby Bolero |
 |
Mary knit up this sweet little bolero from the pattern in One Skein. We think it's absolutely adorable!
Yarn: Cotton Angora in Celery.
|
On the reverse you can see the lace stitch detail at the base of the neck. According to the pattern the eyelet motif is based in Eastern folklore and brings luck and protection to the wearer.
| |
| Kimono Curly Scarf |
 |
The curly scarf phenomenon continues with this soft angora version knit up by Jacqui on 5mm needles.
Yarn: Louisa Harding Kimono Angora in Colour 8.
|
| Mary O's Scribble Lace Scarf |
Mary knit her scribble lace scarf lengthways and it works wonderfully well this way. This is a great stash yarn project - Mary used leftover Kidsilk Haze from a previous project and one skein of Noro Blossom. It also knits up quickly on 10mm needles.

| Fiadhnat's "Sock Wars" Socks |
 |
Fiadhnat took part in a worldwide sock knitting frenzy, run by a Belfast knit blogger and managed to stay in the game up to her second pair of socks. We're not sure that we fully understand the rules and the competition has now finished but it's worth stopping by Yarnmonkey's blog to read all about it!
Yarn: Cashmerino DK
Pattern: Provided by the Sock Wars co-ordinator. |
| Lisa's Top Down Toddler Jumper |
I had lots of fun knitting this seamless top down jumper for my three year old nephew and he wears it with pride! I took the basic instructions from Glampyre's website and just went with the "try on as you go" method of construction.
Yarn: Louisa Harding Kashmir Aran in Petrol Blue. |
 |
| Caroline C's Hedera Socks |
 |
Caroline went all out for her first pair of knitted socks and chose Knitty's Hedera pattern. She had been coveting her own pair since admiring the varieties on display at this Flickr site. Caroline is justifiably proud of these beautiful red lace socks and is finding the plunge into sock knitting very rewarding. |
| Christiana's Hot Water Bottle Cosies |
The very talented Christiana took home some Cashmerino Chunky yarn a few weeks ago so that she could whip up some quick Christmas gifts. To our delight she brought back in these fantastic hot water bottle cosies to show us. We are crazy about the yarn, the mixed stitch textures and the colour combinations. Christiana says about her pattern: This pattern was made for a water bottle measuring 20cm wide by 33cm from very top to bottom. It was a fun way to experiment with different patterns and stitches in a quick project.
Wool: Debbie Bliss cashmerino chunky. You'll need 3 hanks for this project. Since I was making more than one, it worked out to be about two and a half hanks per water bottle cover so I'd buy 5 for two etc. This was such a fun and cozy yarn to play with and has such great texture when you try different stitches.

| Cheryl's Tweed Fetching Handwarmers |
 |
Cheryl has added a tweed twist to the Fetching pattern to produce these beautiful fern green handwarmers. |
| Caroline S's Anouk |
Pattern: Anouk from Knitty.com Yarn: A combination of Cotton DK and Cathay yarns. Caroline knit this as a gift for a friend's new arrival. We're sure it will go down a treat with one lucky little girl! |
 |
| And a matching bonnet hat |
 |
Caroline put the leftover yarn to good use by knitting a matching hat from an old Sirdar pattern of her mum's. |
| Caroline C's Lace Scarf and Beanie |
Pattern: Both patterns are from the Debbie Bliss Pure Cashmere pattern book Yarn: Cashmerino Aran in Dusky Plum |
 |
| Lace Scarf in Detail |
 |
This beautiful scarf demonstrates how lace stitches can be used in chunkier yarns to great effect. |
| Helen F's Fingerless Gloves |
Pattern:Seaside from Magknits Yarn: Rowan Tapestry in Pot Pourri. Helen liked the yarn but didn't think it was suitable for such a detailed project as it has almost a felted appearance when knit up. She would say it is better suited to plain hats, scarves or lined bags - items where a chunky halo is desirable. Helen also advises using bamboo needles with this yarn.
|
 |
| Jacqui's First Pair of Socks |
 |
Pattern: One Skein Sockettes Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in "Lakeview". Jacqui is thrilled with her first pair of socks and encourages everyone to give them a go. She has already started a cute little pair for her grandson and will be moving on to full length socks for herself after that. |
| Brigid's Baby Jumpers and Hats |
Pattern: Assorted Jumper and Hat patterns from Baby Knits for Beginners Yarn: The projects shown are knit from a variety of yarns, including Baby Cashmerino, Cashmerino Aran and Cotton DK. Brigid has picked up her knitting needles for the first time since national school and has been knitting up a storm in anticipation of her new arrival (due this week!). She says "I'm sending you photos so you can see what I've been up to - there are a number of other jumpers which I have given away as presents. I know they are all very simple, but I'm really pleased with them!" We are truly impressed Brigid and especially love the embellishments you have added to your work. |
 |
| More Beautiful Baby Jumpers from Brigid |
 |
Pattern: Boat Neck Jumper pattern from Baby Knits for Beginners Yarn: Cashmerino Aran. These jumpers are a classic example of "making the pattern your own". Brigid has used the basic boat neck sweater pattern and customised it with daisy buttons and a heart motif. That's one of the best things about knitting - endless possibilities and opportunities for creativity. |
| Brigid's Dress and Shoes |
Pattern: Eyelet Dress and Shoes from Debbie Bliss Baby Knits for Beginners Yarn: Jaeger Siena 4-ply in Phlox. A beautiful dress and shoes wraps up the collection for the best dressed new arrival in town. Congratulations Brigid from all at This is Knit :) |
 |
| Mary L's Scribble Lace Scarf |
 |
Pattern: Scribble Lace Scarf from Mason Dixon Knitting and the Internet in general... Yarn: Kidsilk Haze and Noro Silk Mountain. Combining large needles with this fine yarn and setting off the piece every few rows with one line of chunkier knitting produces this unique scarf, that can also be worn as a wrap. This is a fun technique - with plently of experimental potential! |
| Caroline C's Beanie |
Pattern: Simple Beanie from Debbie Bliss "Pure Cashmere" Collection Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in Sweetpea Green This is Caroline's matching hat for her Swish Scarf and Fetching Hand Warmers. This is the icing on the cake for a great collection of winter accessories. |
 |
| Caroline C's ribbed scarf with fur edging |
 |
Pattern: Ribbed Scarf from Debbie Bliss "Pure Cashmere" Collection Yarn: Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk in Teal and eyelash yarn for edging. Caroline's pattern comments: "I'm quite pleased with it although it was so boring to knit. On the plus side it flew off the needles!" |
| Mary L's Ribbed Cardigan, Bustle Effect Detail |
Pattern: Ribbed Cardigan from Cashmerino DK Pattern Collection Yarn: 11 balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK in Purple. Mary fell in love with this pattern when the Cashmerino DK book first became available. The cardigan just needs blocking and buttons now and then it will make its full debut. In the meantime, have a look at the exquisite detail of the bustle-style gathering at the back of the cardigan. Mary assures us that this effect is not too difficult to achieve. We still take our hats off to her. |
 |
| Jacqui's Mistake Rib Scarf |
 |
Pattern: Mistake Rib Stitch Pattern Yarn: Three balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Chunky Needles: 7mm Bamboo Straight Needles |
| Lisa's Drawstring Bag |
Pattern: Simple Drawstring Bag from Last Minute Knitted Gifts Yarn: One ball of Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk DK in Traditional Light Cream. This must be at least the fifth drawstring bag I have made. They are great as an extra-special gift wrapping or, filled with lavender (like this one), a gorgeous gift in themselves. |
 |
| Jacqui's Boat Neck Jumper and Hat |
 |
Pattern: Boat Neck Sweater from Baby Knits for Beginners and Umbilical Cord Hat from Stitch n Bitch Handbook. Yarn: Four balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in Sweetpea Green. The boatneck sweater is a simple knit and suits the cheerful green colour perfectly. Umbilical cord hats knit up quickly using the Magic Loop technique of knitting in the round and they make perfect super-soft gifts for new babies. |
| Mary O's "Fetching" |
Pattern: Fetching from Knitty. Yarn: Noro Kureyon Colour 170. Mary made this pattern her own by choosing a funky self-striping yarn and enjoying the asymmetric results. In this version the last cable twist over the knuckles has been left out and a i-cord bind off was used to give a more snug and structured finish. |
 |
| Cheryl M's "Men's Cashmere Scarf" |
 |
Yarn: Three 50g balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Chunky in Blue Grey. Pattern: Men's Cashmere Scarf from "Last Minute Knitted Gifts" by Joelle Hoverson. Needles: 8mm/US 11 This is a beautiful gift for one lucky man. You can check in with Cheryl over at her blog - A Simple Yarn. |
| Caroline C's Flora Scarf |
Pattern: Flora from Knitty. Yarn: Cotton double knitting and Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk knitted together throughout. A very pretty combination, we like this better than the original. |
 |
| Caroline C's Fetching and Swish |
 |
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in Sweetpea Green. Patterns: Fetching Hand Warmers and Swish Scarf. Caroline will complete the set with a matching hat and send us a picture when she's done! |
| Edel's Fetching Handwarmers |
Pattern: Fetching from Knitty. Edel plans on knitting a pair in every colour! There's definitely a trend starting here... |
 |
| Lisa's pair of Fetching Handwarmers |
 |
Yarn: Cashmerino Aran in Red Pattern: Fetching from Knitty, again!. Just the one hand warmer shown due to the self-portrait type picture! I found this pattern took slightly more yarn then the one ball called for in the pattern. I would say I used about a metre and a half of the second ball. |
| Caroline S's Danica Scarf |
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Merino Aran in Dove Grey and Slate Grey. Pattern: Danica Scarf from Knitty Caroline really enjoyed her first attempt at Entrelac and assures us that it is not as complicated as it looks. She would encourage everyone to give it a try and, after seeing such impressive results, I think a lot of people will be persuaded! |
 |
| The start of Lisa's Butterfly Cardigan |
 |
Yarn: Silk Garden Colour 225 Pattern: "Butterfly" from Noro Knits. This is a really easy Chevron pattern and the Silk Garden yarn is knitting up quickly with impressive results. While the pattern calls for the two front pieces and the back to be knit separately, this version is being knit in one piece up to the armholes to reduce the amount of seaming required. |
| Geraldine's Banff Jumper from Knitty |
And here is Geraldine showing off those beautiful shaped rib bell sleeves to their best effect when she visited us last Saturday at the shop. Geraldine is a prolific knitter and supplies us with a fabulous array of baby booties, hats, teddy bears and handbags for sale. |
 |
| Johanna's Felted Bag |
 |
Yarn: Craftspun Homespun Khaki Green and Brick Red Pattern: Based on the Booga Bag pattern. Johanna's next project is the Booga Bag in Kureyon shade 124. |
| Mary L's Tie Front Shrug - Work in Progress: |
This tie front shrug is based on a "Modular Knitting" pattern which featured in this Summer's Vogue Knitting Magazine. Yarns used: Laines de Nord Kiddy Print and Louisa Harding Shingle. Notes: This multidirectional pattern really shows off the beauty of the variegated Kiddy Print yarn. Alternating with a strand of Shingle breaks up the colours nicely and adds texture to the shrug. |
 |
| The start of Carrie's Swish Scarf: |
