It may have been published back in 2004, but Kate Gilbert's Clapotis is still a go-to pattern for knitters worldwide to this day. This design was one of the first impromptu knit-a-longs that we held in the shop, so we're going "retro" for the shop's 15th Birthday Celebrations.
We have even sourced a special new Townhouse Yarns base for the occasion - Westbury Worsted - and Jenny has picked a signature palette from the Townhouse range for our KAL Kits.
Westbury Worsted is a dreamy blend of 50% Superwash Merino and 50% Silk, with a gentle twist for ultimate drape and shine. (All our merino is also mulesling-free, of course.)
Each skein measures 100g and features 184 metres of delicious saturated colour. We even have a special birthday shade!
Each Clapotis KAL Kit contains 4 skeins of Westbury Worsted. You will also need 5mm needles (straight or circular) for this project.
While searching for a way to celebrate our 15th Birthday in these times of social distancing, we realised the the Clapotis was our first ever impromtu KAL at the shop. It's also scarf / wrap that Jacqui and Lisa have continued to wear every winter - a truly versatile project that stands the test of time.
The pattern is available for *free* via Knitty.com at this link.
Join our Clapotis Knit-a-Long to receive project support through video tutorials and a private Facebook group set up just for this event. We'll all be getting social on Zoom too of course!

Westbury Worsted is a a gently spun luxury blend of merino and silk fibres. A little extra love can be required for a yarn this special. If loose fibres begin to pill then we can highly recommend the Gleener Pill Remover to keep your Clapotis looking its best.
We're so glad you asked! It's an elegant scarf / wrap pattern, designed by Kate Gilbert, that was first released through the online knitting magazine Knitty.com in 2004
We used this pattern for our first impromptu KAL in the early days of This is Knit. Our first versions are still so treasured that we decided to "go retro" and revisit this fabulous design for our special 15th Birthday KAL.
The pattern recommends 5mm straight needles, but you can absolutely use a circular needle too and just knit back-and-forth.
Not just yet. For this new yarn launch we are concentrating on dyeing Clapotis Kit Pre-Orders first.
We expect to make individual skeins available later in the Autumn of 2021.
