A Hand Knitted Baby Cardigan To Treasure - This is Knit

Sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants. Collectively there are seven small children in the lives of our team members here at This is Knit - so we're well versed in the wonders of superwash wool when it comes to knits for small humans - but... Sometimes you want to knit something precious, not practical. And so enters this beauty:

This is the Korrigan cardigan knit in Sierra Andina 100% Baby Alpaca yarn - an absolute delight to knit with and even more wonderful to wrap someone special in. This is the cardigan that a baby or young child might be dressed in for a family photo shoot or a special family celebration. The party outfit, if you will.

Or, if you're knitting this as a gift for a family member of another knitter? Then they'll embrace the beauty of these fibres on a more regular basis and know they can rely on the no-rinse wonders of Soak Wash for the inevitable spills and stains.

Joy worked up this beauty with less than 3 balls of Sierra Andina and 3.25mm needles. She found the pattern enjoyable and would recommend the design for intermediate knitters. The sleeves on this version were knit flat and then seamed, but confident DPN-users or "Magic-Loopers" (like me) could work them in the round for a seam-free finish.

About Sierra Andina By Adriafil

This range features subtly marled shades. In the finished fabric the colour seems to shift and change gently with the light. The sample was made in Shade 11 "Ice Blue". This fibre is of impeccable quality: beautifully soft and warm against the skin. This sport weight yarn is light yet cosy, making it ideal for luxurious layers on cooler days.

About The Korrigan Cardigan Pattern

Korrigan is available as a digital download for approximately 4 Euro direct from Ravelry. We also created a version in sock yarnm a few years back and you can see that incarnation here. Would you like to give this design a try? Don't forget we have Stitch Sessions on offer to help you through any of the methods used that might be new to you.

What's the most precious thing you've knit or crocheted so far? Do you have any top tips or favourite go-to patterns when making gifts for babies?
