It's Weave-a-thon time! - This is Knit

Have you ever wondered if there is sometimes just a little bit of sibling rivalry between Lisa and Jenny? Well, this Sunday the 9th of February you can find out for yourself - by following the This is Knit Weave-a-thon!

What is the Weave-a-thon you ask? Well it will be a day filled with weaving fun, all in the name of two really great causes. It will feature:

  • Two (completely) amateur weavers
  • A race against the clock
  • Warping, weaving, trimming and hem stitching
  • Some very competitive glaring
  • All to raise funds for Doras and Cooking for Freedom.

So if you want to be part of the fun, make sure and keep an eye across our social media channels, or come visit us in store on Sunday the 9th of February from 1pm-5pm.

We're asking everyone to lend whatever support they can through the go fund me page to help these two amazing charities, and to be in with the chance to win one of the woven scarves, or skeins of the original yarn used to create them.

Doras

Doras is an independent NGO. They provide a free and confidential advice and legal information service on immigration-related issues including asylum applications; Direct Provision; Family Reunification; employment rights and reporting racism.

Cooking for Freedom

Cooking for Freedom is a community of women who live in Direct Provision, who come together once or twice a month to cook together in borrowed kitchens so that they can feed their families culturally appropriate food. Residents in DP are not permitted to cook for themselves. The outlet of creating meals for their families is invaluable to both the physical and mental health of asylum seekers living in DP Centres.

The funds raised from this project will help Doras to continue fighting for the overhaul of the DP system in Ireland, while also having an immediate and practical impact for the members of Cooking for Freedom.
