Colour relation

January 18 2013 – thisisknit

Every so often, a pattern appears which is just so worth making - for its cleverness, for the pleasure of working it, for the loveliness of the final object. Veera Välimäki's Color Affection is one of them. We're simply entranced by this shawl. It's so easy to knit and the finished object has to be seen to be believed. There's currently three of them on display in the shop, not including two that were given as Christmas presents, and there's several more planned. The entire thing is made in garter stitch, so it's perfect TV or travel knitting. The shape which fits so comfortably on your shoulders is made by cunning use of short rows, and the colour changes (ours are all made from Malabrigo Sock) come alive in your hands as you work. So if you're looking for a simple, satisfying project, 7,305 knitters can't be wrong. That's the number of Color Affection projects in the Ravelry database as of the time of writing (there'll probably be more when you read this!). And in the last day or so, we've been dreaming of a long line of these, photographed in the lovely light of the Powerscourt Centre. Could we make this happen? How many could we all make between us?

Just started mine on Saturday! Using 2 Hedgehog Fibres Sock Club colours and one from Uncommon Thread. It’s a pleasure to knit and great for movie-watching.

[…] read two posts last week that combined sucked me into the Color Affection craze. The first was my local yarn shop’s blog where the staff have gone mad for the pattern. The second was this fabulous version in vivid green […]

I’ve just been looking through the ravelry projects and some people have dreadful taste in colour combinations, unlike your good selves who have chosen stunning combinations. I particularly love the red and greys.

I’ve seen Maria’s pink and grey and its gorgeous, but think I’ll take a trip in to see the other two. Mine is started in the lovely malabrigo sock, so if its stands up the the standard here, I’d be happy to add it to your line of them!

I had first dimissed the pattern as ‘not my thing’ but I just looked through the projects that I’m now transfixed! I am definately making this! What other excuse do I need to buy THREE skeins of yummy sock yarn :)). Obviously my NY resolution of buying no yarn until at least 50% of my current stash has gone out the window lol! It’s now 4am and I’m going through colour combos! ;)
