Aran Tweed by Studio Donegal hails from a mill that is based in the small town of Kilcar, Co. Donegal. This is an area of great natural beauty, with a rich textile heritage.
Aran Tweed is a unique yarn, with characteristic Donegal "neps" or flecks and a slightly rustic feel.

My project this year is to knit a selection of Bundoran berets, following Carol Feller's pattern in Contemporary Irish Knits (2011, Trade Paper Press). I've knitted 13 so far, using Aran Tweed, in different sizes and styles (standard and slouchy) and in 6 different colours (red, mid-blue, mid-green, fuchsia, purple, teal and aqua). Mostly I have needed 2 balls of wool for a beret but on a couple of occasions I have had to buy a third to complete a few rows.
I like the feel of this Aran Tweed but some batches are a little scratchier than others.
Three of the berets have been given as presents and the recipients have been very happy.
There are a lot more colours for me to try out and I hope to get through as many as possible in time for Christmas.
Stunning colours and much softer than I remember aran wool of yore! Easy to knit with
Very happy with my recent purchase of aran wool. Beautiful quality and it arrived in good time.

This gorgeous fiber is going to be cabled headbands in the very near future. Going to be fun to work with and wear.
Thanks a million 'This Is Knit' for always having just what I need.
I got this yarn to make beanies with Aran inspiration and they are great. Nice to find good quality and locally sourced yarn
