Intro to Crochet – Free Workshop with SO Fine Art Editions
Crochet curious? Join This is Knit and our upstairs neighbours, SO Fine Art Editions, for a friendly introduction to crochet as part of Dublin by Dusk. This free evening workshop will introduce you to the basics through the much-loved granny square, with live demonstrations and help as you start making your own. No previous crochet experience is needed.
We’ll explore a little of crochet’s history, including its place in Ireland, before looking at how granny squares are put together. You’ll discover different square designs, get familiar with common crochet abbreviations and see how these small building blocks can become blankets, garments, bags and more.
The evening also offers a chance to enjoy Symbiosis, the gallery’s current exhibition by Luxembourgish textile artist Yanis Miltgen. His striking installation of handcrafted flowers and winding branches brings knitting, crochet, embroidery and sculpture together — a wonderful setting to discover what you can create with yarn.
