Soft Donegal hails from a mill that is based in the small town of Kilcar, Co. Donegal. This is an area of great natural beauty, with a rich textile heritage.

This aran weight yarn represents the softer side of tweed, as it is spun with 100% merino wool fibres. The shades are inspired by the Irish landscape and each skein features characteristic and iconic Donegal "Neps", or tweed flecks in complementary colours.

Red thread of destiny

Donegal Soft yarn is one of my favourite Irish yarns. The richness of this RED is stunning.

I received the yarn! It’s a beautiful purple color with little specks of color. The yarn is 100% wool and a little hard to work with but when the sweater is done it will be very pretty!

Cannot wait to get going on this amazing yarn. Soft, warm, cozy. Will make a shawl with the skeins that I bought. Lovely colours.

I love the texture of this merino wool. It's soft and not at all itchy-scratchy like some other wools. It is nice to knit with too. However I didn't realise that the "hank" or twisty thing that it comes in has to be unwound carefully into a ball before commencing knitting. I only discovered this after googling and looking at Youtube videos. It took me several hours to unravel the twisted mess I'd made.
