Traditions Revisited: Modern Estonian Knits | Aleks Byrd - This is Knit

Estonian knitting is all about techniques, embellishment and regionality. Each knit tells a story about the knitter and where they live.

For a small country on the Baltic Sea, Estonia’s tradition and love for handicraft greatly surpasses its size.

Aleks Byrd's book Traditions Revisited – Modern Estonian Knits is an introduction to Estonian knitting, with patterns that are both traditional and those that are inspired by traditional techniques. It includes 19 patterns, ranging from mittens to sweaters, that blend seamlessly with modern knitting styles.

Aleks Byrd – whose roots are in Estonia, Canada and the USA – is a knitwear designer based in Bath, UK. In addition to knitwear design, she works as an illustrator and teaches Estonian knitting techniques around the world.

In her designs, tradition and Aleks’ own graphic style meet. With this book, Aleks wants to make traditional Estonian techniques accessible to everyone while at the same time building a bridge between Estonian knitters and the international knitting community.

We have put together some selected kits for patterns in this book. If you simply can't wait to try your hand at the many exciting techniques shared by Aleks in this book then pick up a kit today - Traditions Revisited Featured Kits

Lots of great information

I had an Estonian exchange student and in learning about the history of her country, I discovered the beauty of the knitting that they do, this book teaches me even more. Its a lovely table top book and I hope to not be intimidated by the new techniques.
