Winter On My Mind by Melanie Berg - This is Knit Vlog

September 10 2019 – Nadia Coburn

I don't know about you but this recent chill in the air has me reaching for all of my favourite shawls and I'm searching the cowl and shawl database on Ravelry constantly. To help with this Maureen is back on the This is Knit Vlog to show off her latest FO, Winter On My Mind by Melanie Berg.

Winter On My Mind

We are huge fans of Melanie Berg patterns here in This is Knit and it was this shawl that caught Maureen's eye. Winter On My Mind is the perfect shawl to knit while longing for cooler days. With its wintry colours and intricate lace pattern that evokes frosted windowpanes and snowflakes, it’s a refreshing project indeed.

This is an asymmetric triangular-shaped shawl which is easy to wear. It's charted and comes in written form too. The garter stitch texture and stripe give this shawl a feeling of depth for lace weight and they keep you relaxed until you reach that delicate lacework and you ramp your knitting up a notch to give it a gorgeous detailed finish. Maureen stresses that this is a relatively easy lace knit so if you are looking to take the plunge into trying your hand at lace, you could give this a try.

Yarn

This is a lace weight shawl and Maureen chose to knit hers in Yarntelier Cashmere Lace which gives her shawl a beautiful soft halo and is warm to the touch. Jacqui knit her shawl in The Fibre Co.'s Meadow, which is a luxurious blend of merino, llama, linen, and silk.

If I was to knit this shawl I would take a look at Trinity 2-ply from Townhouse Yarns or KidSeta by Adriafil because I'm on a little bit of a mohair binge at the moment.
