The Patterns

As you progress this Follow Along you will develop the skills to make socks of any size from any yarn you choose.

The course comes with three patterns: two that are "quick start" options and, one pattern that is fully customisable to size through the use of the FAL's built-in handy calculators.

My First Socks Follow Along

tremendous tutorial. Well laid out and easy to follow. Highly recommend.

Great for beginners!

I am a beginner knitter and this FAL is just GREAT! It's very easy and surprisingly quick project even for me, with clear instructions and videos. I love all the cheat sheets, worksheets and the calculator is amazing. I used the Custom Sock Calculator to knit socks for my husband; I already finished one sock and started the second one and it fits just perfect!
I can't wait for the next FAL. I am learning so much and I love that I will always have access to it, to do as many projects as I want. (I also bought the Sweater FAL and already finished it).
Thank you TIK for your amazing work.

Great and easy to follow pattern

I have knit socks in the past but still enjoyed this tutorial and learned through out. The heel instructions are the best I've ever followed and will continue to use it on all my socks in the future. I love the option to use a general pattern or a more customizable pattern. Highly recommend!! Thank you!

Great Follow Along

Fantastic instructions and the videos are very detailed and cover every single step. Looking forward to the next Follow Along.

Follow Along FAQs

This FAL is for all knitters that want to give sock knitting a whirl!

The sock pattern is knit from the toe up, using Magic Loop Technique, and links are provided to both quick refresher on Magic Loop and a more in-depth tutorial on the technique, if you need one.

If you are a beginner that has never knitted in the round, then you might want to start off making a simple pair of wrist warmers, to get comfortable with the concept of knitting small circumferences in the round.

But if you feel adventurous, and are patient and willing to take your time as you learn new techniques, then hop on! Will do everything we can to support you along the way.

You should be comfortable with casting on, knit, purl and casting off.

You will also need a basic knowledge of knitting in the round.

Familiarity with the Magic Loop Technique would be a plus, but links to tutorials on this technique are also provided within the FAL.

Your ticket purchase covers lifetime access to all all patterns, calculators, downloadables and bonus materials. You will also receive a €20 coupon code towards your follow along materials. A total bargain!

You will receive a unique coupon code for use in our online shop after you purchase your follow along ticket.

This code will be valid for 6 months, and it must be used in one single transaction.

We will email you a direct link to the course launch page and you can then navigate at your own pace to the next lesson through the links at the bottom of each page.

We have dedicated an entire video lesson within the FAL to just this topic, so be sure to check that out.

The "quick-start" patterns use either 4ply sock yarn or a DK with some nylon content. The fully customisable pattern allows you to use any weight of yarn (but we'd avoid chunky weight, just for practicality!).

You can view our recommended yarns for the "quick start" patterns here.

Generally speaking you can reuse the yarn from your swatches in your project (even though the yarn has already been blocked). It shouldn't make a very noticeable difference in your finished project, especially after you block your socks again at the end.

This will depend!

The pattern for 4ply sock yarn recommends 2.5mm / US 1 needles.

The pattern for DK weight yarn recommends 3.25mm / US 3 needles.

Everyone's tension is different though, so please feel free to adjust for your own knitting style. The main thing is that you are creating a firm fabric, for longer lasting socks.

For the fully customisable pattern the needles will be whichever ones you used to complete your swatch fabric.

We cover this in one of the first lessons of the follow along too. All will be explained, we promise!

Simply pop your query in the chat box at the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

A member of the TIK Team will get back to you within one working day.

Yes, absolutely! Simply purchase a course pass here.
