So much fun! Great videos and hints. As a seasoned cuff down knitter this has been a great way to learn new techniques.

First pair of socks…and they fit!

Loved doing this follow along. I watched the German Short Row video part of the course a few times to really understand what I was up to. I now feel pretty confident I could do it again. Loved the tutorial style…relaxed and encouraging. I have short wide feet, so great to have a pair of house socks that fit!

Not what I expected

I thought this would be more than just taking measurements but also how to on how to do various heel styles, and how to actually knit each sock section. Perhaps I didn’t read the course description carefully that this information was not included.

Hi Holly,

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review.

As this course is designed to take you through knitting your first socks it does focus on just the one type of heel to ensure the instructions can be as clear as possible and so Lisa can take you through each individual row at this point.

In Follow Along there are also videos or tools that cover the following parts of the sock:

Casting on at the toe
Toe shaping
German short row heel
Calf shaping
Casting off options

If you are having any issue at all accessing these videos please just let me know - we are here to help.

We include the calculators so that you can come back to the Follow Along at any time with different yarn options and so you can always customise the pattern to the different feet you might be knitting for.

Please do let me know if there is anything else I can help with,
Aisling

Sock course

I have only been able to watch the tutorials so far and haven't knitted yet, due to family member in hospital. However the tutorials are wonderful and clear. I can't wait to get going. I shall be able to start very soon. I've always been apprehensive about magic loop and toe up socks, but with these great tutorials I can take it slowly.
Thank you very much, Penny

Wonderful course

Great course. Lisa is easy to follow along with. Love all the worksheets and custom sock calculator. Looking forward to doing the Follow along sweater tutorial next! Wish I lived in Dublin- I would be in their shop all the time!

Follow Along FAQs

This FAL is for all knitters that want to give sock knitting a whirl!

The sock pattern is knit from the toe up, using Magic Loop Technique, and links are provided to both quick refresher on Magic Loop and a more in-depth tutorial on the technique, if you need one.

If you are a beginner that has never knitted in the round, then you might want to start off making a simple pair of wrist warmers, to get comfortable with the concept of knitting small circumferences in the round.

But if you feel adventurous, and are patient and willing to take your time as you learn new techniques, then hop on! Will do everything we can to support you along the way.

You should be comfortable with casting on, knit, purl and casting off.

You will also need a basic knowledge of knitting in the round.

Familiarity with the Magic Loop Technique would be a plus, but links to tutorials on this technique are also provided within the FAL.

Your ticket purchase covers lifetime access to all all patterns, calculators, downloadables and bonus materials. You will also receive a €20 coupon code towards your follow along materials. A total bargain!

You will receive a unique coupon code for use in our online shop after you purchase your follow along ticket.

This code will be valid for 6 months, and it must be used in one single transaction.

We will email you a direct link to the course launch page and you can then navigate at your own pace to the next lesson through the links at the bottom of each page.

We have dedicated an entire video lesson within the FAL to just this topic, so be sure to check that out.

The "quick-start" patterns use either 4ply sock yarn or a DK with some nylon content. The fully customisable pattern allows you to use any weight of yarn (but we'd avoid chunky weight, just for practicality!).

You can view our recommended yarns for the "quick start" patterns here.

Generally speaking you can reuse the yarn from your swatches in your project (even though the yarn has already been blocked). It shouldn't make a very noticeable difference in your finished project, especially after you block your socks again at the end.

This will depend!

The pattern for 4ply sock yarn recommends 2.5mm / US 1 needles.

The pattern for DK weight yarn recommends 3.25mm / US 3 needles.

Everyone's tension is different though, so please feel free to adjust for your own knitting style. The main thing is that you are creating a firm fabric, for longer lasting socks.

For the fully customisable pattern the needles will be whichever ones you used to complete your swatch fabric.

We cover this in one of the first lessons of the follow along too. All will be explained, we promise!

Simply pop your query in the chat box at the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

A member of the TIK Team will get back to you within one working day.

Yes, absolutely! Simply purchase a course pass here.

You will then receive a follow up email with enrolment instructions for your gift recipient.
