Studio Donegal at Woollinn
May 29 2019 – Nadia Coburn
It just wouldn't be an Irish Yarn Festival without some wonderful local Irish Tweed on offer. So we are thrilled to be featuring Studio Donegal yarns on our stand again this year. Studio Donegal produce all of their yarn in their mill in Kilcarr in Co. Donegal, on a site that is steeped in textile history. With such a rich surrounding landscape it is no wonder that the inspiration for their colourways is taken from the world around them. This year we have some wonderful offerings so read on with your pens and shopping lists at the ready!
Studio Donegal Darnie
We were lucky enough to launch Darnie at our stand at Woollinn last year, so Darnie has a special place in our hearts. A stunning 4-ply /fingering weight (100g/410 m), 100% lambswool yarn, this is a beautifully balanced 2ply tweed and absolutely fabulous to knit with.
We know that you have been enjoying Darnie as part of our Woollinn MAL, but for those of you who have yet to experience this for yourself, we will have the full range of Darnie available to squish. And, of course, we'll have garments to try on and finished projects to inspire you!
Studio Donegal Woven Scarves
As fibre crafters I think we can all appreciate the work that goes in to other disciplines within our field - and that's why we've decided to feature these beautiful hand woven herringbone scarves on our stand this year.
Herringbone is a traditional weave in contrasting colours - so called because because it resembles the skeleton of a herring fish. This classic, unisex pattern goes with everything and these quality scarves will last a lifetime.
One of these would make the perfect gift for a friend back home, or an ideal ready-to-wear treat if the Irish weather doesn't co-operate in June!?
Studio Donegal Donegal Wool Spinning Company
Have you ever wanted to find a soft Irish worsted spun yarn? Then look no further than the Donegal Wool Spinning Company. These yarns are rich in the colours that Studio Donegal is known for but one touch will tell you it's something very special indeed.
This is a traditional tweed 2-ply yarn, spun in Kilcarr and is perfect for warm winter jumpers or accessories. 100% wool, this tweed is just the right side of rustic, retaining the charm of traditional tweed while still being soft enough to wear next to the skin. If you need more convincing have a read about Joy's Weekender jumper by the incredibly trendy and popular Andrea Mowry - it's a firm favourite around here!
I will be back soon with yet MORE Woollinn previews. I know you are wondering what could possibly top what we have already shared - but if you have popped into This is Knit recently, have you sensed there is something that the staff members can't tell you?
You'd be right! Stay tuned and all will be revealed soon!
