Time for Tweed

Time for Tweed - This is Knit
The weather is really starting to bite here, so we're very glad to have some toasty tweed garments to hand as preparation for our London adventures continues... We've just a small stand at Yarnporium - 2m x 2m - so I'm starting to stress a little about how to fit all these gorgeous products in! We'll make it work though, because we're sure all the show-goers will love these beautiful tweeds as much as we do.

The Weekender - Donegal Wool Spinning Company

First up from Studio Donegal is their "Donegal Wool Spinning Company" range. This is a satisfyingly crunchy wool yarn that hits the sweet spot between rustic and wearable, creating garments that are warm, practical and durable. The resulting textured fabric has wonderful appeal, even more so in the reverse stockinette of our Weekender Sample, which used less than 5 skeins to knit up, making this a highly affordable project too. Although the design itself is minimal, careful attention to detail has been paid to the finishing elements. Tutorials links are included for clever techniques like Long Tail Tubular Cast On and Kitchener Cast Off, so there are plenty of learning opportunities provided for. Those boxes we've sent contain oodles of shades in this gorgeous yarn, varying from the featured soft grey, through to dark petrol green, with berry shades and autumnal gold in the mix too. Lisa, Jenny and Joy will be on hand at Stand 40 to help you choose just the right shade for your very own Weekender.

Darnie

We're delighted to have gotten our hands on some of this very special fingering-weight lambswool tweed, just on time for the show. Since the official launch of Darnie back at Woollinn in May we've been struggling to keep up with demand for this beautiful 4ply wool. We know Studio Donegal have been blown away by the response too and they're working hard to make more stock available in the coming weeks. It's a yarn that was a long time in the making too, as I remember speaking to Tristan many moons ago about his quest for a balanced, well-structured tweed of two-ply construction that knits to standard 4ply tension. He really came up with the goods with Darnie - it's an absolute pleasure to knit with it just oozes quality in the finished fabric. We'll have our Darnie version of Isabell Kraemer's Jaycee on display at the show, alongside some beautiful accessory projects in this yarn too. Do you have a favourite tweed yarn? Or a project that's calling out for some flecked woolly goodness? Let us know in the comments :) We'll be back soon with one more Yarnporium update - it's a Townhouse Yarns special, with some real treats in store! 📷 Weekender photo credit: Nadia of the Cottage Notebook
